The Sites of the Palos Verdes Hills
The Palos Verdes Hills have a wealth of interesting sites to admire. From cliffs and bluffs, to lighthouses and dramatic ocean and city views, PV is a remarkable place.
Malaga Cove, located in the City of Palos Verdes Estates, is a charming plaza and library featuring beautiful Spanish Renaissance architecture. The plaza, library, and original homes were built starting in the late 1920s. At the center of the historic plaza is the King Neptune Fountain which is a copy of a famous statue in Bologna, Italy that was presented as a gift to the City of Palos Verdes Estates. Visitors enjoy shops, a cafe, deli, market and professional services.
The Portuguese Bend region is the largest area of natural vegetation remaining on the Palos Verdes Peninsula, in Los Angeles County, California. Though once slated for development, the area is geologically unstable and is unsuitable for building.
Standing on the most southwesterly point of the Palos Verdes Peninsula, Point Vicente Lighthouse has long been one of this area's jewels. To the landsman, the lighthouse is scenic delight and continual attraction to sightseers, tourists, photographers and painters. To the mariner, the lighthouse is an aid to navigation which marks the northern end of the Catalina Channel on the Pacific coast. It helps him plot his position and warns him to avoid the rocky shoals which surround the nearby shore and, in a heavy fog, its horn will warn him if he gets too close to the dangerous shore.
A complete shopping, entertainment and dining destination, Rolling Hills Estates boasts a mile-long Peninsula Center shopping area, which includes impressive open-air shopping plazas featuring a state-of-the-art movie theater, an ice rink, and a blend of specialty restaurants, popular national retailers, and local merchants. Promenade on the Peninsula is a three-level outdoor shopping mall located on Silver Spur. It is one of the largest shopping centers in Palos Verdes. Formerly called "The Avenue," it was purchased by the Promenade Mall and its name has thus changed.

The Wayfarers Chapel, a transparent glass chapel in a Redwood forest, was designed in 1951 by the renowned architect and landscape architect Lloyd Wright. It is under the stewardship of the Swedenborgian Church, a well-known landmark on the National Register of Historic Places, and overlooking the ocean at the western entrance of Portuguese Bend.
